The costlier dress shoes are well-constructed, soft as butter and let you walk nicely for important distances, or at least stand in for hours, as you mingle at a party.
On the opposite side, perhaps the poster kid of cheap dress shoes are the one-occasion wear shoes. If your foot at last stretches 1 or 2 straps, they are likely to come unglued at inconvenient moments. If the heel of the shoe has not got a good tip on it, get one put on at the shoemaker’s A.S.A.P.
Once the tip wears down, there is not any bringing back that shoe! Apart from these few provisos, a good stock of cheap dress shoes is a good thing! Having a huge ‘wardrobe’ of shoes creates the idea that you are well-heeled indeed, giving a new flavour to your clothes and accessories.
Consider it this way. If the shoes cost $20 and you wear them just 8 times, that comes to $2.50 per wearing. Bet you spend more on coffee!
